I bought an unded Kuunavang for 20k once, back when they were ~60e each. I bought an unded Grawl for 7k once.
I just got lucky and was unscrupulous enough not to inform the seller of their real worth. This i admit. Have i even thought about the legality of the minis' source, aka were they duped or not? Of course not.

There's no way to determine if someone has bought that certain item knowingly taking part in a game exploit or not.

I'd say making a thread on guru like this is a pretty definitive way of deciding if somebody knowingly bought a duped item.

More or less like this.
So basically, if you're a noob at this game and don't know prices or just are a noob and thought omg panda minipet what is it, let me buy! You're screwed.

I believe that Gaile Gray is on the record as saying "use common sense" in these situations. Whatever that means.

I was able to turn this up from the January 2008 round of bannings (Ebony Citadel of Mallyx exploit):

That's about the most definitive thing I was able to find with a search. I'd read that to mean that they're going to go after the dupers but not the victims of ersatz trades...if not for the fact that I know they've swung the banhammer at the recipients of the ersatz goods in the past.

If you want a guess, anything that isn't obviously a dupe is here to stay. If it's a stack of customized sapphires, expect it to poof. With the fake minis, if they were non-obvious enough about dedicating them they'll probably hang around. (ie: if an account dedicated eight pandas, bet on those pandas going poof.) But that's just a guess.

This is a good response. Thanks for doing some research on official statements.

I think we should just play the game as "business as usual" as there is no sense in worrying about what could be duped or not.

Although it would be nice for Arenanet to address our concerns, but I see why they wouldn't because they don't want to officially admit there was a problem with an exploit in their game.

Duping doesn't exist. It was all a ruse to lower prices.

Just throwing that one out there...

I think what Martin Alvito said applies here. So long as you use common sense the risk is relatively low.

There is a reason we know the duped items mostly went poof (exception of stacked items), it is because it was removed from peoples accounts and those people were not all banned. And the loss was enough punishment to those people

People who bought them at too good to be true prices got a ban along with the dupers on the other hand.

And remember, getting a ban doesn't mean its final. Just means you gotta fight them a bit, tell your side of the story.

As stated previously, I've bought minis at great prices. Why am I not banned?

It's not that I don't like it. It's just that I don't believe a silly little thing like buying anything at "great prices" can get someone banned.

Well lets bring some light in the darkness here. If you buy a duped item, eG armbrace in 2007, for its normal price, so it would not hurt economy, you ARE allowed to keep it. Anet banned no1 who did this in 2007. IF you buy duped things on mass for ridicoulous prices you will be banned because you can be sure they are duped and youll be banned for hurting economy, and so will the duper be banned.

Greetings, Craven

----------

Shirokens drop from 7th Year Gifts btw, Pandas may be duped. But i guess these guys just trolled around.

----------

Or it was Fereos. Dunno.

So ANet's in on the ruse, since they suddenly took the game offline for 'unscheduled maintenance' to fix a 'crash bug'? Which they never do, I might add.

Sorry, not buying. The screenshot of the customized sapphires, plus the sudden influx of dedicated Pandas, plus the guy with eight Pandas dedicated to HoM, plus ANet's behavior are sufficient evidence to conclude that there was a dupe.

That's more or less how it went down in 2007. People that took back a bunch of duped items got drilled and were pretty vocal about it. I can't speak to whether or not they stayed banned forever or not, but quite a few people that didn't dupe did get permabanned.

Whether or not such 'false positives' are going to be more or less likely with the current skeletal support staff is anyone's guess.
